What do you associate with process management?

Hi Reader,

What do you associate with process management?

For me, it is probably a special case, because it is my daily companion in everything with a human-centric reference, and I do research and learn something new about it every day. So I associate it with excitement, anticipation, etc.. 🚀

But let’s not kid ourselves, only a small number of people associate BPM with such feelings (I hope and believe that a large part of this community does, that’s why I love the exchange with you!).

The next point that comes to my mind, and maybe to many of yours: complexity, big business, structures… 🏢

I talked about this very thing in the latest episode of New Process Podcast with Gia Thi Nguyen. Feel free to check it out:

But it doesn’t have to be that way!

I recently had an interesting encounter with a professional photographer. My wife and I wanted to get some nice family photos taken with our kids. 📸

We got to talking about our jobs and what we do. And what I found really interesting was that she writes down all of her processes as a freelance photographer. Her purpose: If something happens, a possible replacement is prepared for everything and can pick up the clients right away.

It made me realize once again: BPM doesn’t always require weeks of process modeling in different departments in big businesses. ☝🏻

Often it helps, as the photographer described, to take some time to think about your own content and processes - for a potential substitute, for your own structure, for help from others - because time is often the most valuable thing you can save in self-employment.

I want to use this as a starting point to pay more attention to my own processes in the next few weeks.

What about you guys? Are you self-employed or in a small business and have your processes documented or even modeled?

I would love to hear your thoughts on this!

Thank you for reading. 🚀

Have a great day!
Mirko

Hi Reader, Can you remember the last time you started a new project, turned a bright idea into reality or maybe even started your own business? If you're nodding yes, then you know the thrill of starting something new - and the mountain of to-do's that comes with it. One of the greatest challenges I've faced is the art of starting simple and progressing incrementally - the philosophy of the Minimum Viable Product (MVP). It still happens to me today that in my burst of motivation I want to do...

Hi Reader, Can you believe it's already November? Time does fly! 😳 I'd like to ask for a small favor that could make a big difference: As in the past two years, I've put together a brief survey to identify the BPM topics of 2024, and I'd love for you to participate.Because our community is such an important part of this journey, it is only logical that I collect your current thoughts and concerns:→ to get a better understanding of what BPM topics are important to you.→ to tailor the content...

Hi Reader, Expanding on the last newsletter, I'd like to stress the importance of interacting with other BPM enthusiasts. It's easy to recognize when someone is genuinely enthusiastic and deeply interested in a subject. In my opinion, this enthusiasm is what really drives us forward, especially in the research world. 🚀 Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of having meaningful conversations with a lot of passionate people. These discussions not only lead to fresh ideas and inspiration...
